Daniel Avery, in an article appearing (August 19, 2019) at Newsweek.com, tells us about "A newly elected member of the St. Louis County Council, who chose to be sworn in with a Dr. Seuss book rather than a Bible."
Earlier this month, Democrat Kelli Dunaway handily beat Republican Alderman Amy Poelker for the 2nd District seat, garnering 60 percent of the vote. Since election regulations don't require politicians to swear their oath of office on a Bible, Dunaway opted to lay her hand on Dr. Seuss' 1990 bestseller Oh, the Places You'll Go!" *
Dunaway's son and daughter held the book during mommies swearing-in ceremony on August 13. 💑
Admittedly, there are no set guidelines declaring a need to take an Oath on a Bible, Quran, or Any Religious Text.
What strikes us as odd, is Dunaway's scatterbrained selection of a book, one of many, which in recent years have been re-evaluated by numerous readers as the product of an author whose earlier works, by today's standards, would be considered blatantly racist.
Surely if Dunaway's discretion in selecting a book for oath-taking, made and obvious left turn to her whimsical inner child, there are many others which might have amused her target constituency more relevantly. Might we suggest...
A few for 'the girls.....
....and a couple, probably
more interesting for the boys.'
We,
on the other hand, believe our recommendation shown below might be more
appropriate, considering the political climate pieced together,
especially during the Trump Presidency, by Dunaway's "Party of the
working man," or peasants, or something.

“Many people are unaware,” librarian Liz Phipps Soeiro wrote, “that Dr. Seuss’ illustrations are steeped in racist propaganda, caricatures, and racial stereotypes. Open one of his books (‘If I Ran a Zoo’ or ‘And to Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street,’ for example) and you’ll see the racist mockery in the art.”
Will anyone have the courage to step forward and inform this newly elected St. Louis County Council-keeper-of-the-Constitution that "she too, is out of line."
In her rush to impress like-minded little Liberal friends, supporters and acquaintances, Kelli Dunaway has inadvertently stumbled over her very own hatred of White privilege, and revealed the true colors of her bigoted political cult, and with all due respect, perhaps the innocence of her very own lily white soul.
