38,927 voters or 36.1%* of those casting ballots successfully launched the career of Nancy Pelosi.
This is the third most powerful political position in the United States of America. The President and Vice President of the United States, elected by a majority of American voters, are the only two politicians who wield more power than Speaker of the House. A few short years ago, Nancy Pelosi-- a local low-level lightweight politician elected by less than 39,000 Americans occupied that most important position.
According to our system of government, if for some reason the President, and then the Vice President were to be incapacitated and unable to serve, when Nancy Pelosi was Speaker of the House, a feather-weight elected by a mere 38,927 Americans, would have ascended to the highest position of power in the United States of America.
If ever there might be a reason to adjust our election process, this one cries out for immediate attention.
