This type of writing/reporting relies heavily on microscopic bits of fact, but mainly calls upon inexperienced personal opinion, the basis for which is rumor, innuendo, gossip and probably today's favorite; 'the phantom unidentified--but very reliable--anonymous source.' Of course, no source is ever revealed, and no reporter is ever reprimanded when their earth shattering 'hot tip' turns out to be untrue, or in many instances, a fantasy storyline conjured up in the mind of an overly ambitious Woodward/Bernstein wannabe.
One irrefutable fact these pompous young and naïve neophytes are incapable of recognizing and admitting is this...Many of their legitimate distant cousins employed at real tabloid publications, print and digital, by comparison have more impressive credentials (education and experience) than they will ever possess. Primarily because of their eternal struggle with immaturity.
Those choosing to remain in this line of work will only succeed because they have taken an oath to religiously follow their industry's standards of dishonorable and shoddy work ethics.
