All things considered,
Arlen Specter

"Everyone's so timid and afraid to insult anybody, but in the end, it's like we're all trying to please everyone. In the end, we please no one." -- Olivia Munn

A fairly accurate description of Arlen Specter's political career, serving in both the Republican and Democratic parties, generally appearing to 'holding his moistened finger in the air--detecting the direction of a blowing wind--and then going in that direction.'

My personal relationship with Senator Specter was, of course, one centered around professional careers; his, obviously in politics, and mine as a young reporter.  Our meetings were usually brief, friendly, and always congenial.  Above all, Arlen Specter will be remembered for many accomplishments, but foremost in my mind, he was an 'honest man.'  Thank you Senator Specter for your dedicated service to the United States of America.

"I would give no thought of what the world might say of me, if I could only transmit to posterity the reputation of an honest man." -- Sam Houston
